THE BASICS
The Lions battled Earlham through the front 6 innings of the game to the tune of a 7-7 tie entering the final third of the game. The Quakers were able to score 3 runs over the final three frames to put the Lions away.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Freshman Austin Richey got the ball to start the game for the Lions, and he struggled early on, pitching himself out of a jam in the top of the first inning. The Lions scored one in the bottom of the first on a fielder's choice by Nate Hunter.
The second was not as kind to Richey, as he walked two in the frame which led to surrendering 3 earned runs.
The Lions knotted the game again at 3 on the strength of a 2 run homer by Hunter in the bottom of the 3rd.
Each team was held scoreless over the next few innings, but the 6th inning was anything but scoreless. The Quakers scored 4 in the top of the inning the big blow coming off the bat of Eric Elkus who smacked a 2 run homerun.
The Lions battled back in the bottom of the inning scoring 4 runs of their own, Zak Farmer delivered the big hit with a bases loaded double over the head of the centerfielder.
From here the Lions offense was kept in check and the Lions relievers were unable to keep Earlham off of the scoreboard, giving up 1 in the 7th and 2 in the 8th.
STANDOUTS
Farmer carried the day offensively as he delivered 3 hits and 3 RBI in the game,
