THE BASICS
Mount St. Joseph fall to 2-5 on the season after a 16-3 defeat suffered at the hand of non-conference opponent Calvin College.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Calvin College Knights jumped out early, scoring the first three goals of the game within the first two minutes of play. At the 3:35 mark senior Erica Walsh put the Lions on the board. This would be Walsh's only goal of the game and the closest the Lions would get as the Knights rallied off our more goals.
The scoreboard read 7-1 in favor of Calvin with 16:57 remaining in the first half.
Sophomore Kara Marshall would scored the Lion's second and last goal of the first half off an assist from junior Courtney Gleason.
The Lion's remained scoreless for the remaining 14 minutes of the half. The Knights continued scoring adding five more goals.
Mount St. Joseph trailed 12-2 at the half.
The Lion's continued to struggle offensively during the second half. The Knights added four more goals.
In the loss, the Lions were outshot 27-14 and would only scoop up 6 ground balls to Calvin's 18. Lion's goalkeeper Katherine Mapes played all 60 minutes in goal and recorded six saves.
Walsh had one goal and 4 of the teams 8 caused turnovers.
Marshall had one goal.
Gleason had one goal, one assist, one ground ball, and one caused turnover.
Maria Sams picked up a ground ball and caused a turnover. Madie Long scooped up two ground balls.
