THE BASICS
The Mount hosted the Pioneers of Transylvania University for a conference contest at UC Health Stadium. The Lions for the third consecutive conference game were dealt a loss, this time by a score of 9-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Freshman Austin Richey got the ball to start the game for the Lions, and pitched relatively well, going 6.2 innings giving up 6 runs (4 earned), on 5 hits. For another game walks and errors doomed the Mount as Richey gave out 4 free passes, and the Lions defense committed 4 errors.
Trailing 6-2 in the bottom of the 7th inning the Lions would draw even on the strength of a 4 run inning. Matt Hofmann led of the inning with a single, followed by a single by Kyle Kittle, both of whom would score later in the inning, in total the Lions would plate 4 on 5 hits knotting the game at 6.
The Lions though would quickly relinquish that lead as the defense let down Nick Gunnell and Hofmann on the mound, allowing 3 runs in the frame none of which were earned.
The Lions were unable to dent the plate again, dropping their third consecutive contest.
STANDOUTS
Centerfielder Nick Browning was dropped in the lineup due to some recent struggles, and the new position suited him well as he produced a 2 for 5 day with an RBI.
UP NEXT
The Lions host Anderson University for a weekend series at The Midland Baseball Complex in Amelia, OH. Friday's game is scheduled for a 5:00 pm start with Saturday's contests scheduled to get underway at 12:00 P.M. and 3:00 P.M.
