Lions move into fourth place in the ORLC with home victory over Franklin, 14-6

How it happened:
The Mount St. Joseph women's lacrosse team improves to 3-2 in the conference and 5-7 overall with a home victory against ORLC opponent Franklin College, 14-6. 

The Lion's got off to a strong start with senior midfielder Madie Long (Coloumbus,OH/ Hilliard Davidson) scoring the first two goals of the game. Franklin would go on to add a point on the board before the Lion's found their offensive grove. At the 23:09 mark the Lion's scored 7 consecutive goals. 

Starting off the 7 goal streak was Erica Walsh (Louisville, KY/ Sacred Heart Academy). She would also have the fourth goal of the streak after Courtney Gleason (Cincinnati, OH/ Seton) and Kara Marshall (Cleveland, OH) each found the back of the net. Long would contribute the 5th and 6th goals of the streak, tallying her fourth of the game. Maria Sams (Cincinnati, OH/ Oak Hills) tallied the final goal for this consecutive streak for the Mount. Franklin would add one more goal before the first half was over, and Walsh would add the final goal for the half for the Mount. 

The halftime scoreboard read, 9-2. 

The second half started off similar to the first with the Mount tallying the first two goals, one from Walsh, who ended the game with 4 goals, 3 groundballs, 4 draw controls, and 2 caused turnovers, and the second from Bristyl Webb (Oxford, OH/ Talawanda). 

The Grizzle's and the Lion's would go on to trade the next four goals. The final Mount goal came off an assist from Long to Marshall at the 14:01 mark giving the Lion's a ten point led, 14-4. 

In the final six minutes the Grizzle's would add two points of the board, one of which came from in a man up situation, making the final score of the game, 14-6. 

In this win, the Lion's committed 10 less turnovers (20-30), caused 21 of Franklin's 30 turnovers, took more shots (25-23), and scooped up 18 groundballs to Franklin's 17. 

Faith Koehne (Cincinnati, OH/ Sycamore) led the defense with 5 caused turnovers and 3 groundballs. 

Gleason and Webb each tallied 3 caused turnovers, while Sami Ives (Erlanger, KY/ St. Henry) recorded 2 caused turnovers as did Walsh and Sams. 

Kat Mapes (Cincinnati, OH/ Cincinnati Country Day) played 50:58 minutes in goal to record 4 saves.

Morgan Wareham (Hilliard, OH/ Hillard Bradley) played the remaining 9:02 minutes in goal.

The Mount St. Joseph women's lacrosse team will travel to Hanover College on Saturday at 10am to continue ORLC play and strive to lock in a spot in the post season tournament.
