THE BASICS:
The Mount (18-15, 7-13 HCAC) dropped three straight at home to Hanover College (10-21, 7-12 HCAC) on Saturday and Sunday, all by two runs or less. The losses all but eliminate the team from any chance at reaching the four-team conference tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1 - Hanover 2 - MSJ 0
Wyatt Myers tossed seven innings, surrendering just two runs, both earned. Nick Gunnell posted two scoreless innings, but it wasn't enough as the MSJ bats could not catch fire. The Lions had just four hits in the game and left seven runners on base in the 2-0 loss.
Game 2 - Hanover 11 - MSJ 9
The Lions scored six runs in the third inning but couldn't hold the lead in the ninth inning when Hanover slapped five runs on the board to take an 11-7 lead. The Lions scored two in a ninth-inning comeback effort but it wasn't enough.
Game 3 - Hanover 6 - MSJ 5
A Hanover batter was hit by a pitch to start the ninth inning and eventually came around to score on a single. The run broke a 5-5 tie and would be all Hanover needed to close out the 6-5 win and weekend sweep.
STANDOUTS
Zak Wagner and Ryan McCauley each had three RBI in game two. Austin Richey knocked in four of the team's six runs in game three.
