Box Score Early in the game yesterday Mount St. Joseph looked primed to bring home their first win of the season. The Lions defense was flawless in the first quarter of play and the offense was able to strike multiple times. Kevin McClanahan and Anthony Behler (Cincinnati, OH / Elder) were both able to find the back of the net in the first quarter, giving Mount St. Joseph a 2-0 lead going into the second quarter.
The second quarter would not be as kind to the Lions. Hiram was able to strike back with three goals of their own, although McClanahan would add his second goal of the afternoon to keep things tied up at 3-3 going into halftime.
The third quarter would be the downfall for the Lions. Mount St. Joseph would give up four goals in the period, scoring only two of their own and they would trail 7-5 going into the final quarter. John Ewing (LaPorte, IND / LaPorte) would come alive in the second half, scoring three goals in the span of about 15 minutes and doing everything he could to spark a Lion comeback.
Despite a great effort in the fourth quarter the Lions would be unable to retake the lead, as both teams would put the ball in the net three times. When the final horn sounded Hiram would take the game by a final score of 10-8.
John Ewing and Kevin McClanahan both played very well on Saturday afternoon. Both players had three goals and together they combined for the vast majority of the Lion offensive attack.
Next up for The Mount is a matchup with Carroll at home on Wednesday. The opening faceoff with take place at 1:00 PM on Schueler Field
