Box Score On Friday night the Mount St. Joseph Lions played host to the Little Giants of Wabash College. The Lion defense was shaky to start the game, allowing the Little Giants to tally five goals in the first quarter of play. However, Mount St. Joseph's offense had their best showing of the season by far, finding the back of the net seven times.
Tyler Lindholz (Springboro, OH / Springboro) opened the scoring for the Lions on Friday night, putting MSJ's first point on the board with about 2:30 remaining in the first quarter. Connor McPhail (Nashville, TN / Father Ryan) would quickly join the action in the second quarter, scoring twice and helping to keep the Lions in the game.
Heading into the second half of play Mount St. Joseph trailed 9-3 but looked like they might make things interesting when Connor McPhail scored only a minute into play in the third quarter. The Lions would score one more time in the third quarter and twice more in the fourth. However, the defense was unable to contain the attack of the Little Giants and Mount St. Joseph would fall to Wabash 17-7.
Connor McPhail was outstanding on Friday evening. McPhail was the main source of offense for the Lions, as he was able to score four times. He was assisted by John Ewing (LaPorte, IN / LaPorte), who scored twice against Wabash.
The Lions are in action next on Saturday, March 11 against Hiram College. These two teams will face off on Schueler Field at 1:00 PM.
