Bats go cold against Earlham

Box Score

Mount St. Joseph went into Wednesday night's game against Earlham fresh off of a series win over Bluffton over the weekend.  The Lions found themselves at 5-4 in the conference with a chance to continue to push towards the top if they could defeat the Quakers.

The Lions would send Mike Hilliard (Loveland, OH / Clinton Massie) to the hill for their first game of the season against Earlham.  Hilliard would pitch well over his two innings of work, allowing just one run, although it was not earned.

Hilliard was followed by a cast of five other Lions who would find themselves on the bump throughout the game.  All of the pitchers threw well enough to give Mount St. Joseph a chance to win, giving up just one earned run as a staff throughout the entire game.  Unfortunately, the performance would not be enough.

The Lions could not get anything going on offense against the Quakers.  Each time they had the opportunity to do something to get back into the game they could not find a way to get the big hit or score the big run.  They were only able to put one run up on the board against the Quakers and would fall to Earlham by a score of 5-1.

LION AT THE PEAK

Zak Farmer (Hamilton, OH / Lakota West) was the only Lion who had two hits on the day.  Farmer was able to knock two doubles against Earlham and was also responsible for Mount St. Joseph's only RBI in the game.

UP NEXT

The Lions are back in action at Midland Field on Friday.  They will kick off a weekend series against conference-leading Franklin with the first pitching coming at 4:00 PM.  MSJ will be right back at it on Saturday with a doubleheader against the Grizzlies with the first pitch of game one coming at 12:00 PM and game two starting directly following the conclusion of game one.
