Box Score 2 Mount St. Joseph had a chance to win the series at Anderson going into Saturday. Although they dropped the first game of the series on Friday they had two games Saturday along with a chance to get back near the top of the conference.
GAME ONE
The Mount St. Joseph offense was in their usual form on Saturday in game one. The Lions started slow in the game, putting up zero runs in the first inning but would go on to score in seven of the nine frames they would play.
Austin Richey (Cincinnati, OH / CCD) did not start the game on the hill for the Lions but he would play the role of hero for the pitching staff. He would come in with no outs in the first inning and would work seven innings for Mount St. Joseph. Richey's final line would be 7 innings of work, striking out 4 batters, and giving up 3 runs, although none of those were earned.
Nick Browning (Fairfield, OH / Hamilton Badin) would explode on offense for Mount St. Joseph. He would go 5-5 in the game and would hit for the cycle in game one on Saturday. He would score three runs and knock in five RBIs for the Lions, who would go on to win in convincing fashion, 18-7.
GAME TWO
Paul Spaulding (Cincinnati, OH / LaSalle) would be called upon to attempt to win the series for the Lions in game three. He turned in a solid start, spanning 6 innings while allowing 4 runs, while only 3 of those were earned. All of the damage done off of Spaulding would be done in the four-run fourth inning by the Ravens.
The Mount St. Joseph offense would fall silent in game three, scoring just one run in the game. The Lions left a few offensive opportunities on the field and when the final out was recorded, the Lions would fall 5-1 to the Anderson Ravens.
LIONS AT THE PEAK
Nick Browning and Nathan Hunter (Vevay, IN / Switzerland County) were the two sparkplugs for the Lion offense on Saturday. Browning hit for the cycle in the first game of the doubleheader and scored three runs while hitting in five RBIs. Hunter went a combined 5-8 between the two games for Mount St. Joseph. He was also responsible for scoring five runs and hitting in four RBIs.
