The Basics:
Mount St. Joseph faced a strong Wilmington team Tuesday night. The Lions fell to 5-1 deficit after one quarter of play. The Lions would connect with the net a couple times in the first half to decrease the lead but were ultimately defeated with a final score of 20-3.
How it Happened:
The game started as a battle by the Lions defense. Wilmington was able to put together a string of goals to take the 3-0 lead over the Lions. Matt Stecht (Erlanger, KY/ Holy Cross) was able to get to the net after an assist from Seth Poirier (Somerville, OH/ Talawanda) to decrease the deficit. In the second quarter the Lions struggled to get the score close. Noah Borgdorf (Bellevue, MI/ Bellevue) was able to score for the Lions but the team still trailed 6-2. The Mount was able to get one more score before the end of the half from Austin Lowery (Indianapolis, IN/ Roncalli). Wilmington held the lead 11-3 at the end of the first half. They were able to control the rest of the game as the Lions were not able to lower Wilmington's lead. The Mount was defeated with a final score of 20-3
Standouts:
Many players were able to get involved on the offensive end. Matt Stecht was able to score the first goal for the Lions to get the offense going and also recorded an assist later in the game. Lowery was able to connect with his first goal of the season.
