The Basics:
The Mount St. Joseph University women's lacrosse faced off against the Grizzlies of Franklin College in a nail biter conference game on Wednesday at Faught Stadium. The Lions held Franklin to one goal in the second half and brought the game to a tie at the end of regulation time causing the game to overtime. In overtime the Mount could not make a repeat and fell to the Grizzlies with a final score of 10-9.
How it Happened:
The Mount's leading scorer Courtney Gleason (Cincinnati, OH/ Seton) wasted no time to add to her total being the first to make a mark on the scoreboard. The Lions could not catch their footing and let the Grizzlies get six goals before Gleason could break Franklin's run. Franklin was able to make two more in the half separated by a goal from freshman Gabriella Halfhill (Liberty Township, OH/ Lakota West). The Mount was able to get a pair of goals to end the half from Kara Marshall (Cleveland, OH/ Laurel), assisted by Grace Crawford (Cincinnati, OH/ Wyoming), and an unassisted goal from Brianna Brannon (Cincinnati, Oh/ Seton).
The second half is where the Lions came alive. They held Franklin to one goal during the 30 minute half. Halfhill led the charge with three goals in the second half. Two assisted from Brannon and one all on her own. This brings Halfhill's goal total to a season high of four goals in one game. Gleason aided Halfhill to bring the scores even at 9's to end regulation time.
In overtime the Lions fought through half of the three minute sudden victory time before the game to an unfortunate end with Franklin finding a way to score first. Leading to a Lions loss ending their three game winning streak with a final score 10-9.
