The Basics:
Mount St. Joseph was able to take the lead early after scoring three unanswered goals in the first quarter. The Lions went into halftime with a demanding lead of 5-1 over Earlham. The Quakers could not contain the Lions explosive offense as The Mount went on to win with a final score of 11-1.
How it Happened:
The Lions were able to get on the board first, just minutes into the game with a goal from Sean Burke (Covington, KY/ Covington Catholic) to take the early lead over the Quakers. The Mount was able to add two more unanswered goals to their lead to finish the first quarter with the score at 3-0. In the second quarter of play Cameron Mueller (Cincinnati, OH/ Northwest) was able to take advantage of a man up situation to get to the net and increase the Lions lead. Jesse Purdy (Lexington, KY/ Dunbar) was also able to get in on the action, scoring yet another goal to put the Lions ahead 5-1 before the end of the first half. The second half was dominated by the Lions. Noah Borgdorf (Bellevue, MI/ Bellevue) was able to achieve a hat trick scoring three goals for the Lions in the third quarter. The Lions went into the final quarter of play with an 8-1 lead over the Quakers. Seth Poirier (Somerville, OH/ Talawanda) was also able to reach a hat trick, as he was able to get to the net on three occasions in the final quarter of play to add to the Lions lead. Mount St. Joseph finished on top defeating the Quakers of Earlham with a final score of 11-1.
Standouts:
Multiple players were able to get involved on the offensive attack. Poirier came up huge for the Lions. He was able to lead the offense with 4 goals on the day. Borgdorf was also able to make an impact finishing the game with 3 goals for the Lions.
