CINCINNATI, Ohio - Your Mount St. Joseph wrestling team hosted their third home dual of the season Tuesday, hosting the Polar Bears of Ohio Northern. The Lions struggled out of the gate and fought back but it wasn't enough to secure the win.
After dropping the first couple of matches sophomore Charles Lipps (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was the man to get things rolling for the Lions. Lipps endured a hard fought match which ended with him coming out with the 3-2 victory.
After dropping another match next up for the Lions was sophomore Cornell Beachem Jr. (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods). Beachem Jr. continued his dominance in this match getting ahead early and not looking back. Beachem Jr. ended this match with a technical fall in the third period with a final score of 20-5.
After dropping a match the Lions turned to Antonio McCloud (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) to get things back on track in the 197lb weight class. McCloud battled in this matchup, with 1:30 left to go in the match the score showed 4-4. McCloud was able to get a quick takedown and secure the victory with a final score of 6-4.
To finish out the day for the Lions it was sophomore Cameron Sauerwein (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) in the heavyweight class. Sauerwein got off to an early 6-1 lead and was not stopping there. With 47 seconds left in the first, Sauerwein pinned his opponent and secured the victory. Unfortunately, this was not enough for Lions in the team score as they dropped the dual to Ohio Northern with a final score of 27-17.
