Wrestling Goes 2-0 at Jim White Duals

WASHINGTON, Pennsylvania - The Mount St. Joseph wrestling program headed to the Jim White Duals hosted by Washington and Jefferson University on Saturday. The Lions squared off with W&J and Hiram in the event and put together a 2-0 dual record on the day.

MATCH ONE | MSJ 26 - W&J 24

The Lions first match of the day was against the host Washington and Jefferson, it started off with a win by fall for W&J at 125lbs giving them an early 6-0 lead. The Lions answered with three straight bonus point victories from 133-149. Baron Miller got the win at 133 with a 16-0 tech fall, Cahiel Linton followed that up with a win by medical forfeit and Xavier Woods finished the run with a second period pin giving the Lions a 17-6 advantage.

W&J followed that up with a pair of wins of their own to make the dual score 17-15. Brayden Kuhling would secure the decision at 174lbs to puth the Lions lead to five. A pair of W&J wins 184 and 197 lbs had them poised to secure the dual victory. Trailing 24-20 heading into the 285lb match the Lions would need bonus points to win the dual. Sergio Pacheco Ortiz would deliver, winning by second period pin to give the team a 26-24 dual victory. 

MATCH TWO | MSJ 38 - Hiram 10

In the second match of the day the Lions squared off with Hiram College. Once again they faced an early deficit, dropping the 125lb match. The trio of Miller, Linton and Woods all were victorious again to give the Lions a 15-3 advantage. Miller was awarded a win via forfeit at 133, Linton won by fall at 141 and Woods got the 10-7 decision. 

Hiram cut the score to 15-10 with wins at 157 and 165 but those were the last points they'd score in the match. The Mount would win and secure bonus points in every match from 174lbs -285lbs. Kuhling won at 174, McCaden Skeens at 184, David Maher at 197 and Jahlil Davis at 285.

The Lions will be back at home on Friday night, welcoming former HCAC foe Defiance College into the Harrington Center.
