Box Score 2 FLORENCE, KENTUCKY- The Mount St. Joseph University baseball team welcomed the Cardinals of Otterbein to UC Health Stadium for a nonconference double header on Sunday afternoon. The Lions were swept by the Cardinals losing game 1 by a score of 22-7 and game 2 by a score of 15-3.
GAME 1:
The Lions gave Zack Bell (Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton) the ball for game one. The Cardinals took an early 2-0 lead on the Lions. In the bottom of the first the Lions took a 4-2 lead when Michael Sundahl hit a two run home run to left field. The Lions were trailing 7-4 in the bottom of the third when Roman Rothwell (Monroe, Ohio/Monroe) hit a solo home run to left field. The Lions would tack on two more runs in the bottom half putting them down after three by a score of 7-6.
The rest of the game was all Cardinals with the Lions only tacking one more run in the bottom of the sixth. The Lions fell to the Cardinals by a score of 22-7. With this loss Zack Bell fell to 0-1 on the season. Michael Sundahl and Garret Hogan (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) led the way for the Lions both going 2-3 on the day. Sundahl also recorded two RBI's for the Lions. Ryan Murray (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) extended Mount St. Joseph baseball hitting streak record to 19 games after going 1-2 on the day.
GAME 2:
The Lions gave the ball to Brandon Shelton (Cincinnati, Ohio/Northwest) for game two. The Cardinals kept the bats hot for game two as they started the game off strong being up 5-0 after five innings. The Lions got on the board in the sixth when Tyrell Anderson (Cincinnati, Ohio/Western Hills) hit home run to left center scoring two. The Lions tacked on one more in the bottom of the sixth making the score 12-3.
The rest of the game the Lions did not cross any runners the rest of the game. The Lions fell to the Cardinals in game two by a score of 15-3. With this loss Brandon Shelton fell to 0-1 on the season. Ethan Baker (Independence, Kentucky/Holy Cross) led the way for the Lions with three hits on the day. Tyrell Anderson and Hunter Collins (Middletown, Ohio/Monroe) also had two hits each for the Lions. Anderson led the way for the Lions with two RBI's. In relief Garret Hogan (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) went two innings pitched giving up zero runs on one hit with four strikeouts. Ryan Murray (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) lost his school record hit streak of 19 games. Murray started the game off 0-2 but drew two walks in his last two at bats continuing his games on base streak to 20 games.
