Lions Finish Spring Trip with Win and Tie

Auburndale, Florida- The Mount St. Joseph University Lions baseball team concluded their spring break trip in Florida as they took on the Hawks of Becker College on Thursday. The Lions ended their spring trip with a win and a tie. The Lions won game one in walk off fashion by a score of 12-11 and tied game two by a score of 4-4. 

GAME 1:
The Hawks started the day off strong putting up a seven spot on the Lions in the top of the first. The Lions responded by getting six back in the bottom half of the first on a two run home run to left center by Jose Bustamante (Austell, GA / South Cobb). Dalton Durbin (Brookeville, IN / Franklin Co.) also homered to left center plating two. The Hawks scored two more runs in the top of the second making the score 9-6. The Mount got three back in the bottom half making it be all tied up going into the third. The Hawks got a run a piece in the third and fourth. The Lions went into the bottom of the seventh down 11-9. They then tied the game at 11-11 when Roman Rothwell (Monroe, OH / Monroe) hit a single scoring two. Bustamante then stepped up where he hit a single into the left center gap walking the game off for the Lions giving them the win by a score of 12-11.

Aidan Post (Fairfield, OH / Fairfield) went three innings giving up one hit and striking out three as he posted his first win of the year against no loses. Bustamante led the way for the Lions going 3-4 with three RBI's. Garret Hogan (Hamilton, OH / Badin) also had three hits on the day. Rothwell led the team with five RBI's on the day.

GAME 2:

Game two started off slow for the Lions with the Hawks taking an early 3-0 lead after three innings. In the fourth the Lions got two runs back cutting into the Hawks lead. In the fifth the Hawks got their last run of the game giving them a 4-2 lead. In the sixth the Mount tied the game when Tyrell Anderson (Cincinnati, OH / Western Hills) hit a RBI double to left center. Dalton Durbin (Brookeville, IN / Franklin Co.) then hit a RBI single to left center making the score 4-4. In the bottom of the seventh Cody Bailey (Marrow, OH / Little Miami) got into a no out first and third jam. Bailey got a line out to second, a strikeout looking, and a pop out to first to not allow the Hawks to get the win. The game finished in a 4-4 tie due to the fact that Becker College could only play seven innings due to a flight they had to catch later in the day.

The Mount were led by Anderson, Jose Bustamante (Austell, GA / South Cobb), and Roman Rothwell (Monroe, OH / Monroe) who led the way with two hits each for the Lions. Anderson led the Lions with two RBI's on the game. Bustamante kept his bat hot as he went 5-7 on the day.
