UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio - On Sunday, November 21st your Mount St. Joseph University wrestling team traveled to John Carroll University to compete in the John Carroll Invitational. The Lions faced off against John Carroll University, Lourdes University, and Lake Erie College. Facing some tough competition the Lions went 0-2 in the Invitational but came away with some keys wins on the weekend.

The Lions faced off against Lake Erie but there was no team score recorded. The Lions won 3 of the 8 matches with
Desmond Diggs (Xenia, Ohio/Xenia) taking the first match by decision 6-5 in the 141lb weight class. Following Diggs was
Patrick Sterrett (Indianapolis, Ind./Univ. of Indianapolis). Sterrett battled and came away with the second win of the day with a 4-3 decision in the 174lb weight class. Finally, heavyweight
Michael Addis (Norwood, Ohio/Norwood) got his impressive day started with a gritty 3-2 decision victory for the Lions.

The Lions struggled early on in this dual but the Lions owned the later portion of the dual.
Antonio McCloud (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) made his return to the mat in the 184lb weight class and did what he does best, win. McCloud in his return defeated his opponent 6-1 earning the Lions 3 points in the team score. Following McCloud was
Cameron Sauerwein (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) in the 197lb weight class who took care of business defeating his opponent by decision 6-3. To finish the dual in the heavyweight class
Bradley Smith (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) fought hard and defeated his opponent by decision 4-3.

Much like the dual against Lourdes the Lions struggled early but fought hard late to earn points.
Antonio McCloud got things started for the Lions again in the 184lb weight class defeating his opponent by decision 12-5 to secure a 2-0 start to the season.
Michael Addis also wrestled well and pinned his opponent in the first period to bring the Lions score to 9 to finish off the dual.
Along with the dual the Lions wrestled 8 extra matches. The Lions were very successful winning 6 of the 8 matches.
Jorden Zigo (Dayton, Ohio/Trotwood Madison) got his first victory of the day in the 141lb weight class defeating his opponent by major decision 17-5. Following Zigo was a pair of victories from
Roger Dylan Deck (Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton). Deck had victories in both the 157lb weight class and 165lb weight class defeating his opponents by pin and major decision 15-6 respectively.
Kaleb Gelter (Milford, Ohio/Milford) was able to secure a win in the 184lb weight class defeating his opponent 8-6. Heavyweight
Rowan Tolbert (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) dominated pinning his opponent in the first period earning his first victory of the season. Finally,
Michael Addis capped off his impressive day with a pin just 1 minute and 45 seconds into the match. Addis was 3-0 on the day, leading the Lions in victories.
