CINCINNATI, Ohio - On Sunday, December 12th your Mount St. Joseph University Lions welcomed the Chargers of Ancilla College and the University of Rio Grande Red Storm to the Harrington Center for the first home meet of the season. The Lions squared off against Ancilla to begin the meet and were unstoppable. The Mount won every match defeating the Chargers 58-0. After Ancilla and Rio Grande battled the Lions took on the Red Storm. Again, the Lions were dominant taking all but two matches defeating Rio Grande 44-9.
MSJ - 58 Ancilla College - 0
Ancilla College only wrestled in four weight classes forfeiting in the 125lb, 133lb, 149lb, 157lb, 165lb, and 174lb weight classes.
Desmond Diggs (Xenia, Ohio/Xenia) got things started for the Lions with a major decision victory of 16-8 in the 141lb weight class. Following Diggs was
Antonio McCloud (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) in the 184lb class. McCloud took care of business in the first period pinning his opponent 1:12 into the match. In the 197lb weight class
Cookie Armstrong (Dayton, Ohio/Alter) followed McCloud pinning his opponent 2:23 into the first round. To cap off the first match in the heavyweight class
Michael Addis (Norwood, Ohio/Norwood) beat the buzzer with a pin 2:59 into the first period giving the Lions the 58-0 victory.
MSJ - 44 Rio Grande - 9
The Lions got their second match started with
Jorden Zigo (Dayton, Ohio/Trotwood Madison) in the 125lb class. Zigo controlled the riding time early in the match defeating his opponent 10-5 to give the Lions an early 3-0 lead. After two forfeits from Rio Grande the Lions would drop a match but still held the lead 15-6. The next man up to wrestle for the Lions was 157lb
Roger Dylan Deck (Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton). Deck dominated the first period going up 6-3 and then pinned his opponent in the 2nd period at 4:33 extending the Lions lead to 21-6.
The Lions would drop another match but the #1 174lb wrestler in Division III
Cornell Beachem (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) would step to the mat. Beachem worked quickly defeating his opponent by technical fall 20-5 in the first period. Following Beachem was
Antonio McCloud who was even quicker. McCloud pinned his opponent just 32 seconds into the match giving the Lions a commanding 32-9 lead. After a forfeit from Rio Grande in the 197lb weight class
Bradley Smith (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) stepped to the mat to round out the meet. Smith was dominant going up 8-1 before pinning his opponent 2:47 in the first round. After the official match was over
Dylan Deck stepped to the mat again to wrestle a consolation match vs Rio Grande's Ryan Troyer. Deck didn't waste any time pinning Troyer just 1:14 into the first round earning the win.
