Box Score CINCINNATI, Ohio - Your Mount St. Joseph Lions men's soccer team kicked off their season Wednesday night as they welcomed the Eagles of Asbury to Schueler Field. The Lions battled in the first half but ultimately the Eagles would attack in the 2nd half leaving Schueler Field victorious by a score of 3-0.
To begin the 1st half the Lions showed off the impressive with a pair of key saves from goalkeeper
Matthew Hibbard (Cleves, Ohio/Taylor). The Eagles flooded the net with shots in the first half totaling 9 shots, 3 on target, all saved by Hibbard. The Lions ahd 3 shots of their own, 1 on target, but could not find the net showing a score of 0-0 after 45 minutes of play.
To begin the 2nd half of play the Lions again showed their defensive presence before the Eagles were rewarded a penalty kick in the 65th minute. The Eagles did not waste the opportunity giving them a 1-0 advantage. The Lions would try to answer in the 68th minute with a shot from
Michael Abel (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) but the Eagles keeper was able to secure the save.
The Lions defense showed promise again only allowing one shot until the Eagles were able to hammer a shot into the top right corner giving them a 2-0 lead. But, the Eagles weren't done, as they surged another goal into the top left corner of the net extending their lead to 3-0. The Lions were unable to answer and fell to the Eagles 3-0 after 90 minutes of play.
