ADA, Ohio - On Saturday, December 3rd your Mount St. Joseph University wrestling team traveled to Ohio Northern University to compete at the Ohio Northern Invitational.
Desmond Diggs and
Alex Hobbs were dominant for the Lions over the weekend. Diggs claimed the top spot in the 133lb weight class while Hobbs finished runner-up in the 174lb weight class.
First,
Alex Hobbs added another impressive weekend to his resume as a Mount St. Joseph Lion. Hobbs got his weekend started with a victory in the 3rd period via pin. Hobbs worked quickly in his second match earning his second pin in as many matches just 1:39 into the match. In the quarterfinal matchup Hobbs would continue to ride the momentum. Hobbs faced off against Ohio Northern's Jackson Hawker and cruised to a 11-3 major decision victory.
Following a trio of strong victories Hobbs continued to impress. Hobbs added another major decision victory, 13-5, over Lycoming's Eli Crum to advance to the 174lb championship match. In the championship Hobbs faced off against the #14 ranked 174lb DIII wrestler in the country, Owen Guilford of Olivet College. Hobbs battled but fell just short ending his day with a 4-1 record while placing 2nd Place.Â
Desmond Diggs was also impressive over the weekend and this time, in a different weight class. Diggs entered the weekend with a 7-4 record in the 141lb weight class. But, this weekend Diggs dropped to the 133lb weight class and looked sharp. In his first match Diggs got off to a good start with a 13-4 major decision victory. In round 2 he took care of business again with a 14-7 victory. In the quarterfinal match Diggs knocked off Ohio Northern's Camden Spears by major decision, 14-5, to move onto the semifinal match.
In the semifinal Diggs was tasked to face off against Jack Collins from DII, Tiffin University. Diggs got to work and powered his way to a 9-3 decision victory moving him to the 133lb championship match. In the championship match Diggs would face off against Ohio Northern's Dylan Le. With the crowd behind Le, Diggs looked to keep his perfect day alive. Diggs got ahead early with a takedown in the first period and never looked back. After 3 tough periods Diggs silenced the Polar Bear crowd taking the 133lb championship at the Ohio Northern Invitational.
