Box Score CINCINNATI, Ohio – On Saturday February 26
th, your Mount St. Joseph Lions played host to the RedHawks of La Roche University. Following back-to-back losses for the Lions to start the season, they bounced back in a dominate way with a 18-3 win over the RedHawks.
The first period of play the Lions did not take long to crack into the scoring column as Sophomore
Ben Koopman (Cincinnati, Ohio / Elder) would score the first of his 7 goals on the night to put the lions on top 21 seconds into the game. The period would continue to go back and forth before the Lions once again found the back of the net. Freshman
Jacob Murray (Cincinnati, Ohio / Moeller) would score with 4:05 left in the period to put the Lions in front 3-1 at the end of the first.
The second period would remain the same with both defenses dominating. The Lions offensive attack would strike quickly with three goals in the matter of 55 seconds.
Mason Meilinger (Centerville, Ohio / Centerville) would connect on two goals followed by another
Ben Koopman goal to give the Lions a 6-1 lead midway through the second period. The Lions offensive would continue their on-fire attack by adding 3 more goals by the end of the period to extend the lead to 9-2.
The third period was more of the same for the Lions. The defense only allowed 1 shot while forcing the RedHawks into 7 turnovers and giving up 0 goals in the period.
Ben Koopman would continue his stellar performance by putting in 3 more goals in the period. Junior
Kevin Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio / St. Xavier) would score his first goal of the game to give the Lions a 13-2 lead after three periods.
In the final period of play, La Roche would come out scoring the first goal. The Lions would share the ball around the field as 4 different Lions would score to finish out the period. Senior
Solomon Richards (Cincinnati, Ohio / Elder) would put away the final goal to give the Lions a 18-3 victory.
The Lions were led by
Ben Koopman who poured in 7 goals with an assist, while putting 11 shots on goal.
Jacob Murray also added 4 goals with 5 assists and 7 shots on goal.
