CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. - On Sunday, January 9th your Mount St. Joseph University wrestling team traveled to Thomas More University to take on the Saints in a Dual Meet. The Lions earned 4 wins on the day but were unable to knock off the Saints falling 32-18.
The Lions first win of the day came in the 133lb weight class.
Desmond Diggs improved on his impressive 16-5 record taking down Thomas More's Casey Ragle. Diggs fell behind early in the first period but battled back with a pair of takedowns to secure the 5-3 victory.
The next Lion to earn victory came in the 174lb weight class.
Alex Hobbs got the Lions back on track with a dominant performance. Hobbs attacked early with takedowns and never looked back. After 7 minutes Hobbs earned his 3rd major decision victory of the season knocking off Thomas More's Jahmon Spiller 16-5.
Following Hobbs was defending National Champion
Cornell Beachem Jr. in the 184lb weight class. Beachem Jr. got his season started just last Thursday and was seeking his 2nd victory of the year. To begin the match, Beachem Jr. got working quickly smothering his opponent on the mat. Leaving no room for error, Beachem Jr had his way with Logan Sowders cruising to a 18-2 technical fall victory.
The Lions weren't done yet as 197lb
Kaleb Gelter stepped to the mat. Gelter was the final Lion to secure a victory on the day and made it count. Gelter wasted no time getting his opponent to the mat. After the takedown Gelter quickly maneuvered his positioning to set up a pin. Gelter found his footing and quickly pinned his opponent just 1 minute and 4 seconds into the first period, earning his 6th win including his 3rd by pin.
