CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – On Saturday, January 20
th your Mount St. Joseph University wrestling team traveled to Wabash College to compete at the Wabash College Invite. The Lions joined Huntingdon College and the University of Indianapolis at Wabash to compete in the tournament. The Lions had five wrestlers earn 5
th or better in their weight class with one earning a 3
rd Place finish.
Jordan Miller was the first Lion on the mat over the weekend competing in the 125lb weight class. Miller got his day started great with a 2
nd period pin over Wabash's Jake Lentz to move onto the Semifinal match. But, Miller would fall in the Semifinal match moving him to the Consolation Semifinals. Here he would face off against Huntingdon's Jamal Whittington. Miller battled in this bout grinding his way to a 3-0 decision victory to move onto the 3
rd Place Match. In his 4
th match of the day, Miller wasn't able to get the victory but still placed 4
th in the 125lb weight class.
Next for the Lions was
Andrew Magness in the 141lb weight class. Magness got knocked off early in the Quarterfinals moving him into the Consolation Semifinals. Here he would face off against Wabash's Blake McGee. Magness would control the match ultimately getting a pin in the 2
nd period to move onto the 3
rd Place Match. Magness would get a rematch of the quarterfinals but couldn't pull out the victory still taking 4
th in the 141lb weight class.
In the 165lb weight class the Lions had a pair of wrestlers. Both
Dylan Deck and
Skyler Cowgill took the mat for the Lions and looked dominant to start. Deck got an impressive 19-4 technical fall victory over Wabash's Rylan Hendricks. Cowgill left no breathing room for Wabash's Lucas Murphy taking him down by major decision 10-0.
But, in the Semifinal matches both wrestlers would fall moving them to the Consolation semifinals. Both wrestlers would get back on track with impressive victories. Deck got his 2
nd technical fall victory of the day defeating Wabash's Murphy 18-3. Cowgill earned a 1
st period pin over Huntingdon's Ty Wunderl moving both of The Mount wrestlers to the 3
rd Place Match. Cowgill and Deck would go face-to-face for 3
rd Place in the 165lb weight class. The teammates made for a great match with Deck getting the best of Cowgill by decision 7-4. Deck would earn 3
rd Place while Cowgill still collected 4
th Place.
Jermaine Poynter also had a solid day on the mat for the Lions. Poynter dropped his first two matches but was able to bounce back in the 5
th Place Match. Poynter picked up a victory to close out his day taking 5
th in the 174lb weight class. Freshman
Jahlil Davis was also able to place for the Lions. Davis fell in his first match but responded nicely in the Consolation rounds. Davis matched up against Huntingdon's Kameron Collins and earned his first college pin in the 2
nd period. Davis would drop his final two matches of the day but still pick up 8
th Place in the 285lb weight class.

th at 11AM.
