ANGOLA, Ind. – On Saturday, February 17
th your Mount St. Joseph University wrestling team traveled to Trine University to compete at the Mid-States Invitational. The Lions joined ten other teams at the Invitational working as a preview to the DIII Central Regional. The Mount placed four wrestlers in the top four with one placing in the top three.
Dylan Deck continued his dominant season with another impressive weekend on the mat. In his first match in the 165lb weight class Deck matched up against Heidelberg's Carter Mock. Deck allowed just a single point en route to a 15-1 major decision victory. In the semifinal match, Deck fell just short falling by decision 5-3.
But, Deck was given a chance to wrestle-back in the consolation bracket. In the consolation semifinal match Deck faced off against Trine's Ethan Nash. Deck bounced back earning a solid 9-2 decision victory placing him in the 3
rd place match. There he would face off against Olivet's Jay Shaull. Deck ended his weekend on top with a 15-6 major decision victory. Deck finished the weekend with a 4-1 record while taking 3
rd Place in the 165lb weight class.
Jordan Miller,
Jorden Zigo and
Kaleb Gelter also were able to place for the Lions over the weekend. Miller got started first in the 125lb weight class. After falling in his first match, Miller responded nicely with back-to-back victories in the consolation bracket. Miller earned a 10-3 decision followed by a pin in the second period before dropping his second match of the day. But, Miller still earned the right to wrestle in the 7
th Place match taking down Olivet's Sam Schreiber by major decision 13-5.
Zigo followed Miller wrestling in the 141lb weight class. Zigo got off to a great start winning his first two matches by technical fall (19-4) and major decision (15-6). But, in the quarterfinal match he would fall moving to the consolation bracket. Here he would face his teammate,
Andrew Magness. The Lions battled but Zigo came out on top by major decision 14-6. Zigo would drop his next match but like Miller was given the opportunity to wrestle for 7
th Place. Zigo didn't waste his opportunity pinning Heidelberg's Josh Gibson in the third period.
Gelter was the final Lion on the weekend to place. After falling in his opening match, Gelter got back on track with a pair of wins in the 197lb weight class. A pin and a decision helped Gelter survive in the consolation bracket but fell in the consolation third round. But, just like Miller and Zigo he found himself in the 7
th Place match. Gelter earned his second pin on the day pinning Wabash's Hadyn Ball in the second period.

nd when they travel to Ada, Ohio to compete at the NCAA DIII Central Regional hosted by Ohio Northern University. The Regional is set to begin at 11 AM on Friday and 10 AM on Saturday.
