NEW CONCORD, Ohio – On Friday, September 12, the Mount St. Joseph Lions returned to action on the road for a doubleheader, taking on Muskingum University and Washington & Jefferson. The Lions battled through a tough first match before bouncing back with a dominant sweep in match two, showing both resilience and growth across the day.
MATCH ONE: MSJ 1 – Muskingum 3 (12-25, 20-25, 25-16, 21-25)
The Lions opened their Friday slate with a hard-fought match up against host Muskingum University. Junior Emma Sicking led the way offensively, notching 14 kills on 41 total attempts as she consistently applied pressure at the net. Sophomore Aubrey Miranda added 9 kills on 23 attempts, bringing energy and efficiency to the Lions' front row.
The setting duo of freshman Ava Moore and sophomore Ginger Johnson each dished out 16 assists, helping MSJ maintain a balanced offensive rhythm. Moore also contributed defensively with 13 digs, while sophomore libero Lyndsey Stephenson anchored the back row with 18 digs, continuing her steady presence on defense.
Despite falling in four sets, the Lions showed moments of strong play and determination, taking the third set convincingly and pushing Muskingum throughout the match.
MATCH TWO: MSJ 3 – Washington & Jefferson 0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-20)
Mount St. Joseph bounced back in commanding fashion in the second match of the day, sweeping Washington & Jefferson in straight sets. The Lions dominated from the opening serve, setting the tone with aggressive offense and solid defensive play.
Sophomore Aubrey Miranda paced the attack with 8 kills on 23 attempts, continuing her strong day at the net. Setter Ginger Johnson distributed 12 assists, while Ava Moore added 10 more as the pair effectively ran the offense with precision and poise.
Defensively, senior Hannah Graves led the back row with 13 digs, and Lyndsey Stephenson chipped in 11 digs of her own, helping to neutralize Washington & Jefferson's scoring threats.
The win marked a strong response from the Lions and a key momentum boost heading into the weekend.
