CINCINNATI, Ohio — The Mount St. Joseph University men's volleyball team put together a competitive effort Friday night at home, taking the opening set before ultimately falling to Trine University in four sets.
MATCH ONE: MSJ 1 – TRINE 3 (25-21, 20-25, 20-25, 21-25)
The Lions came out strong in the first set, executing efficiently on the offensive end and maintaining control late to earn a 25-21 victory. Senior Jude Lewis paced the attack with 14 kills on 37 total attempts while adding 13 digs to record a double-double. Senior Luke Dwire contributed 12 kills on 25 swings, providing a steady and reliable presence at the net.
Trine responded with narrow wins in the second and third sets, both by 25-20 margins, as the teams traded runs throughout each frame. Mount St. Joseph continued to compete point-for-point and showed resilience in extended rallies.
The fourth set remained tight, with the Lions staying within reach down the stretch. Despite the strong push, Trine secured the set 25-21 to close out the match. Sophomore Brayden Bass directed the offense with 37 assists, distributing the ball effectively across multiple attackers. Defensively, sophomore Carson Reed led the back row with 18 digs, helping sustain rallies and keep the Lions in system throughout the night.
Mount St. Joseph will look to carry its momentum into the second match of the weekend.
