LOCATION: Florence, KY (UC Health Stadium)
THE BASICS:
Mount St. Joseph (12-5 1-3 HCAC) hosted Manchester University (8-8, 2-1 HCAC) for a weekend conference series and after winning the first game, the Lions dropped both games of Friday's double header.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
The first game of the series saw the Lions get a very solid start from Wyatt Myers (3-0), who pitched 7 innings of 5 hits of 4 run ball, while striking out 8.
The Lions offense was able to hit the ball all over the park, to the tune of 13 hits and 9 runs. Nate Hunter went 3 for 5 with 2 RBI to pace the Lions offense.
After allowing the Spartans back in the game Matt Hofmann was able to slam the door for the Lions, getting his 3rd save of the year.
Game 2
The first game of Friday's double header saw the Lions send freshman Alex Wagner to the mound. Wagner started off the game by sitting down the first 6 Spartans he faced. A rough third inning though would hurt his stat line, he finished going 5 innings surrendering 4 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks.
Offensively the Lions were able to get to Manchester's starter early, scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the first inning, scoring 3 runs on 2 hits and an error. In the third inning Zak Farmer capped the Lions scoring on the day with his 4th homerun of the season.
The Lions offense went cold, not scoring the rest of the way, while the bullpen was unable to keep Manchester in check.
Game 3
Paul Spaulding went to the mound for the Lions in game 2 of the double header. He struggled through his 4 innings of work, he surrendered 7 hits and 3 walks while allowing the Spartans to score 6(4 earned) runs.
The Lions offense was stymied again by the pitching of the Spartans, the Mount was held hitless through the first 4 innings. They were only able to score 2 runs for the entire game, Nick Browning paced the Lions offensively going 1 for 2 with an RBI while walking twice.
