Box Score 2 Terre Haute, Ind.—The Lions Baseball team traveled to take on the Fightin' Engineers on Saturday. Additionally this was the final regular season game on the Lions season as their final double headers were canceled. This double-header saw the Lions drop both of their games, but were able to play competitive baseball along the way.
GAME ONE: MSJ 3 RHIT 12
Game one was a tough outing for the Lions. The top of the sixth inning saw the Lions put together a bit of a rally, as they plated three runs. This rally began with an Ian Mustard double, then followed up by a Ryan Murray single that put the runners at first and third for Tyrell Anderson. Anderson was able to collect a double that scored Mustard. This series of events brought Josh Hagans to the plate, he was able to deliver an RBI single that scored Murray. Finally Carter Owen had an RBI single, this saw the Lions take a 3-2 lead over Rose-Hulman.
The rest of the game the Lions were unable to manufacture any runs, thus Rose Hulman being able to regain their lead and not surrendering it. However the Lions did have a few players post great performances. The pair of Hagans and Owen each went two for four at the plate and driving in a run. Murray was able to collect one hit on the ball game, along with an RBI.
GAME TWO: MSJ 3 RHIT 6 F/10
Game two came down to the very last pitch. Rose-Hulman was able to jump out to an early lead, but the Lions were able to produce two runs in the top of the third inning. Jake Lawson got the Lions started with a walk, followed by Mustard and Murray singles that loaded up the bases for the Lions with just one out. The Lions then proceeded to score two runs off of Rose-Hulman mistakes. Hagans was able to draw a walk that score the Lions first run of the game, then in the next at-bat the Rose-Hulman pitcher balked, scoring the Lions second run of the inning.
When Ryan Murray stepped into the batters box in the top of the 8 inning the Lions were trailing 3-2. With a swing of the bat, Murray was able to tie the game back up for the Lions, hitting a solo home-run. This tie saw the game go into extra innings, where Rose-Hulman was able to win on a walk-off hit.
Game two of the double-header saw Murray collect two hits, including his home-run. Nathan Renner started this game on the mound for the Lions, he was able to go eight innings of work, while striking out four batters and only allowing one earned run.
